Excellent value and customer service

I'm very pleased with the 4130 single-speed bicycle. Most impressive to me were the great-quality components for the price. The frame is beautiful; mine had great welds and flawless finish. The brake levers are metal. The stem has a nice finish that matches my crank, chainring, freewheel. seat post, and handlebars. The chainring is replaceable, and since there are steep hills where I live, I went down to a 39T chainring. It works fine with no chain rubbing on the spider arms. That said, the chainring that came with the bike is a work of art and I probably should have kept it and simply upped my freewheel size to accomplish the same ratio. The freewheel that came with the bike is equally lovely as far as freewheels go. I did change mine out for a 20T freewheel (again for the hill climbing) but the one I removed was far superior to the Amazon special I installed. The dropout bolts are a nice touch. The wheels have elegant 15mm bolts to fasten the wheels to the fork and frame. The hubs are smooth with zero bearing play. Headset was smooth and looks to be of great quality as well. Seatpost is really long, so plenty of adjustability. I bought the 55cm model and it's a little tall for me at 5'11" with a 32" inseam, but I am used to mountain bike with a low CG so maybe this is normal. I keep my saddle all the way down, but i think most single speeders rarely sit, so it's not a big deal, but the top tube seems really close to my crotch. The saddle quality is nice as well. There is not one part (other than the pedals and awful grips, both of which I had replacements for already) that disappointed me. I had a small problem with my fork during installation but had a response from customer service within 15 minutes of my first email, and a replacement part within a few days. Very professional and friendly staff. Thank you for taking pride in your product and services.

A great ride

Takes me back. Last had a fixed gear 10 years ago. Very glad I bought a new one. Bike arrived in a few days and I had it put together in 20 mins. Great fit/finish. Worth every penny!

Great Quality, Price, and Support

I’m new to cycling after a forty-year break from cycling in college and bought this bike for fitness purposes. It’s only been two weeks, but so far the bike is flawless. It arrived carefully packaged with no damage. My local independent bike shop put it together for warranty purposes and commented on the quality of the machine. It is a beauty in navy and gold. It seems very fast and agile and I’ll get used to that. The gear ratio is perfect for my environment of gentle hills and it provides a great workout. The staff at State has been supportive, and responsive and patiently answered technical questions. I’m impressed with the quality control and highly recommend this steel-frame bike. Surprisingly the bike doesn’t have any trouble keeping up with multi-geared road bikes. I'll report back with updates and upgrades as I gain experience.
